Nigeria’s rising table tennis star Matthew Kuti has been named in the squad for the 2025 African Cup, set to take place in Tunis, Tunisia, from February 25 to 27.

Kuti’s inclusion comes after an impressive run in domestic and international competitions. The teenager, who has won four of the five major tournaments in Nigeria, recently claimed the Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup Men’s Singles title, further solidifying his reputation as the country’s most consistent player.

His performance at the African Cup will be crucial as he competes for one of four available spots at the 2025 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China, this April.

Since making his senior debut at the 2023 African Games in Accra, Kuti has been a key member of the Nigerian men’s national team. He played at the 2024 and 2025 African Championships in Tunis and Addis Ababa, winning a silver medal with the team.

In Tunis, Kuti will face off against some of Africa’s best, including Quadri Aruna, Omar Assar, and Dina Meshref, with the top four semifinalists earning World Cup qualification. He will be part of a Nigerian squad led by coaches Segun Toriola and Dotun Omoniyi.
