Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, and captain, William Troost-Ekong were omitted as FIFPRO released the final list for the 2024 World XI.

According to their official website, the team of the year was chosen by more than 21,000 men’s football players from 70 different countries. The 26 men’s football players that earned the most votes from their peers for their efforts between August 21, 2023, and July 14, 2024, inclusive, are thus the FIFPRO Men’s World 11 finalists. During that time, players had to have participated in at least 30 official games.

Due to his performances for club and country, Ademola Lookman was nominated in the initial list for attackers. Troost-Ekong whose masterclass in defense led Nigeria to the AFCON final was also nominated amongst other elite defenders. However, none of them made the final cut.

The final list of 26 players included Manchester City’s Ederson, Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. Elite defenders including Virgil Van Dijk, Antonio Rudiger, William Saliba, and Dani Carvajal also made the cut.
