Ahead of Atalanta’s crucial Champions League clash with Real Madrid tonight, Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman says the game will be a difficult one but they expect to get the maximum points.
Atalanta will be seeking redemption after their 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup earlier this season. The Italian side has been in impressive form in the Champions League, remaining unbeaten in their first five matches.
Currently sitting fifth on the log, they are on track for automatic qualification to the round of 16. Real Madrid, on the other hand, have had a more inconsistent campaign, losing three of their five matches and currently occupying the 24th position, placing them in the round of 16 playoffs.
Despite Madrid’s recent poor run, Lookman believes it’s going to be a difficult game in Bergamo, “This Tuesday will be a very difficult match. But we are focusing on ourselves, on how we can do damage. It is another great challenge for us,” Lookman told Mundo Deportivo.
“What we did in the past will stay there. The game is the game and it is an opportunity to show the quality of the team and what we have achieved in recent games,”
Lookman has been a standout performer for Atalanta this season, scoring two goals and providing an assist in the Champions League. He will be eager to increase his tally and help his team secure a victory over Real Madrid.
Vinicius Junior, who has been sidelined with an injury for the past four games, is expected to return to the Real Madrid lineup tonight. Lookman expressed his admiration for the Brazilian, stating also revealing that the team is filled with dangerous players who can decide games.
“He’s one of the top players in the world, he shows that time and time again in La Liga and the Champions League. He is one of the top players in the world for sure,” Lookman told TNT Sports Brazil.
“Real Madrid has top players who make the difference, who decide games. But not only that, it is a team of great quality. We have to give it our all,” he concluded.
Atalanta will rely on the attacking prowess of Lookman, Mateo Retegui, and Charles De Ketelaere to deliver a strong performance at the Gewiss Stadium.
