Ademola Lookman credited Atalanta’s resilience and teamwork after his late assist secured a 1-1 draw against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

The Nigerian forward set up substitute Marco Brescianini for the 87th-minute equalizer, his fifth assist of the season, ensuring Atalanta maintained their position at the top of the Serie A table. Lazio had taken the lead in the 27th minute through a stunning strike by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, but Lookman’s decisive contribution kept Atalanta’s title ambitions intact.

“It was a tough match, the first half was very difficult for us, but we fought and on another day might’ve won the game,” Lookman told Sky Sports Italia in his post-match reaction. “We drew today, but we didn’t lose, so it’s positive.”

Lookman, who was named Man of the Match for the seventh time this season, reflected on Atalanta’s remarkable 2024 campaign, which included a historic Europa League triumph—capped by his memorable hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.

“The club had a fantastic 2024, so we want to continue doing the same thing, and the new year will be even better,” he added.

The draw sees Atalanta end the year with 41 points from 18 matches, narrowly ahead of Inter Milan, who are on 40 points with a game in hand.

Atalanta’s first challenge of 2025 will be the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Inter Milan in Riyadh on January 2. Lookman expressed confidence in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.

“It is another big game. The Supercoppa is important for us. Inter are a strong team, but we know that we have to fight and show our quality,” he said.
