Nigerian and FIFA badge center-referee, Abdulsalam Kasimu Abiola has been selected to officiate at the upcoming CHAN 2024 tournament which is to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

In 2024, FIFA accepted Kasimu Abiola alongside a total of 29 Nigerian referees to be placed on the international duty lists. However, he is the only Nigerian referee who will be present in the African Nations Championship from 1 – 28 February, 2025.

A total of 26 referees were approved by CAF for the continental tournament while 25 assistant referees and 14 VARs and AVARs were selected to officiate during the competition.

To ensure transparency, the referees were selected from various countries across Africa as only Morocco and Togo had two referees approved each. For the assistant referees, only Morocco and Cameroon had two representatives each while for the VARs and AVARs, only South Africa had two representatives.

The 8th edition of the biennial association football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is the first ever to be held in three different countries and 18 teams will compete for the ultimate prize.
