Kano Pillars have ended their three-game winless streak, defeating El Kanemi Warriors 2-1 in their rescheduled Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 20 fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday.

Kano Pillars were under pressure to secure a victory, given their recent slump which had seen them drop to 14th place in the NPFL standings. In contrast, El Kanemi Warriors were keen to maintain their momentum, having suffered only one loss in their previous four matches.

The first half of the game was largely quiet, with neither team able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. However, the second half sparked to life as Rabiu Ali put Kano Pillars ahead from the spot, only for Umar Al Amin to equalize just three minutes later, also from a penalty kick.

Just as a draw seemed inevitable and Kano Pillars were bracing for more dropped points, Rashid Alhassan emerged as the hero, netting his second league goal of the season in the dying minutes to snatch a thrilling victory for the hosts.

Rashid Alhassan’s late strike secured all vital three points for Kano Pillars, halting their three-match winless run and handing the team their first victory since January 23, when they defeated Enyimba at home.

The important victory propels Kano Pillars back into the top half of the table, as they climb to 10th place with 32 points from 23 matches. On the other hand, El Kanemi Warriors retain their sixth position, having accumulated 35 points from the same number of games.

Up next for Kano Pillars is another home game against Abia Warriors who have lost only one game in their last five. Meanwhile, El Kanemi Warriors will be on the road once again, visiting Plateau United with the aim of bouncing back after a disappointing defeat.
