Victor Osimhen is a doubt for the Super Eagles 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash against South Africa on Friday, after missing the team’s flight to Bouaké due to an abdominal discomfort.

According to a post on the Super Eagles X account, the Napoli star did not travel with the rest of the squad on Monday night as they left Abidjan for their next destination.

Osimhen has been placed under close watch by the team medics, with one of them staying behind in Abidjan with him.

The NFF said Osimhen will undergo further tests on Tuesday morning and if cleared, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.

The post read, “Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today, via a 10 p.m. Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 p.m.”

Osimhen’s only goal at the ongoing AFCON came in Nigeria’s 1-1 goalless-draw against Equatorial Guinea in their group opener.

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro will be hoping to have the star striker available for the semi-final against South Africa, who stunned Morocco 2-0 in the round of 16 before seeing off Cape Verde 2-1 via penalty shootout in the quarter final after the game ended goalless at the end of regulation time and extra time.

The Super Eagles are aiming to win their fourth continental crown, having last lifted the trophy in 2013.
