The game remained evenly poised until the 96th minute when Ayomide Cole was brought down in the penalty area. Despite strong protests from the visiting team, the referee awarded a penalty.

Rivio Anyemwenre calmly converted the spot-kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and sealing a crucial victory for Ikorodu City. This result lifted them to sixth place in the league standings.

The match was played behind closed doors as a result of disciplinary action taken against Ikorodu City following fan unrest in their previous match against Remo Stars.
