D’Tigers guard Ike Iroegbu delivered a clutch performance on Tuesday night, sinking a pivotal jumper with just four seconds remaining to secure Basquet Girona a dramatic 91-90 victory over FC Barcelona Basket. The win marked Girona’s fourth of the season and a stunning upset against the star-studded Barcelona team.

Despite being the underdogs and sitting at the bottom of the ACB Liga standings, Girona had a strong start, outscoring Barcelona 28-20 in the first quarter. The second quarter was fiercely contested, with Barcelona edging Girona by a single point, 24-23.

After halftime, Barcelona came out with renewed determination, dominating the third quarter 27-13 to take a seven-point lead into the final 10 minutes of the game.

However, Girona staged a remarkable comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring their opponents 27-19. The decisive moment came when Iroegbu nailed a fadeaway jumper, capping off his game-high performance with 25 points, four assists, and two rebounds.

Iroegbu’s heroics were supported by Maximo Fjellerup, who contributed 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while Juan Fernandez and Aljami Durham chipped in 11 points each.

For Barcelona, Nigerian forward Chimezie Metu had an impactful game, scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high six rebounds in 17 minutes. Metu thought he had sealed the win for his side after sinking two free throws to give Barcelona a 90-point lead, only to see Iroegbu snatch victory for Girona.

Justin Anderson also delivered a standout performance for Barcelona, scoring a joint game-high 25 points, but it wasn’t enough to prevent their eighth defeat of the season.

Looking ahead, Iroegbu will aim to guide Girona to another win when they face Baskonia on Sunday, where Nigerian forward Chima Moneke is expected to feature. Barcelona, meanwhile, will seek redemption when they take on Monaco in the EuroLeague on Thursday.
