Enyimba head coach, Stanley Eguma heaped praise on new signing and AFCON winner, Brown Ideye in his post-match press conference following Enyimba’s 4-1 win against Black Bulls Maputo in the CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday.

While Joseph Atule stole the show with an early goal to give Enyimba the lead before he assisted Brown Ideye to extend the lead in the 67th minute and scored another goal to seal the victory in the dying minutes of the game, Brown Ideye’s experience and clinical finish was crucial in securing “The People’s Elephants” first win in the tournament.

Speaking with the press after the game, Stanley Eguma admitted that while not being fully fit, Ideye’s presence has been important to the team: “Brown Ideye, of course we all know him, he’s a household name who has played for Nigeria internationally. As soon as I got to the club, I must tell you he raised the confidence of the team,” he revealed.

“His presence is a big plus to the team. Of course he might not be fully fit because it’s not quite long he joined the team. We’ve been working on it but it’s a gradual process,” the gaffer added.

Eguma also asserted that he is still working to raise Ideye’s fitness and performance levels, indicating that the experienced striker still has more to offer: “He has not had a full 90 minutes and it’s only his second game since he joined. I am still watching and working on him to ensure he gets back to full fitness and full performance. In the nearest future, he’ll add more to the team than what he is doing now.”

The head coach also spoke on the importance of the victory going forward: “Winning will give the players the mentality that they can do better in other matches,” he declared.
