Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens coach, Sarah Bakhita, expressed her confidence in her team after they qualified for the Super Six of the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
The team’s qualification for the Super Six was a remarkable achievement. Despite losing to South Africa in their final group game, their first point against Samoa and their impressive victory against New Zealand earned them a spot in the next round.

Following the loss to South Africa, Bakhita acknowledged her team struggled with the pressure, but maintained that it’s not a reflection of their overall capabilities.
“There was pressure especially when we came in to chase the score. The girls didn’t manage to hold their nerves very well but that is not an indication of their capabilities,” she said.
Despite the setback, Bakhita emphasized that her faith in the team remains unshakable as they advance to the Super Six: “I still believe in the girls, we still believe in their capabilities. Going into the super six, the wheats have been separated from the chaffs. We know that now the teams we are facing are tougher teams,” the coach preached.
With the Super Six looming, Bakhita recognized the necessity for the team to revisit their game plan and make adjustments to counter the more formidable teams they will face.
“We will be facing number 1 and 2 in group B so we have to go back to the drawing board and ensure that we fine tune things and rectify what we did wrong and bounce back with a positive attitude for the next game.”
“We still have hopes for the semifinals, if we get our four points, then we can get somewhere,” Bakhita added optimistically.
