Enyimba International, Nigeria’s lone representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, will be seeking their first points in Group D when they host Egyptian giants Zamalek at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
After a disappointing 2-0 loss to Al Masry in their opening group stage match, Enyimba are desperate for a win to revive their hopes of progressing to the round of 16.
Zamalek, on the other hand, enter the match on a high, having secured a 2-0 victory over Mozambique’s Black Bulls in their first group game. They also recently enjoyed a 4-0 drubbing of Ghazl El Mahalla in the Egyptian Premier League.
Historically, Zamalek holds the upper hand in head-to-head encounters with Enyimba, having won four of their six previous meetings. However, the Nigerian side is determined to break this trend and secure a crucial victory.
Zamalek’s manager, Jose Gomes, while acknowledging Enyimba’s quality, remains confident in his team’s ability to secure a win. “We are not scared of Enyimba,” he stated. “Yes, they have good players, but we are Zamalek, and we know how to handle pressure. We have our strategy, and we are focused on winning the game.”
Enyimba, meanwhile, have struggled to find the back of the net in recent matches, drawing 0-0 twice against Etoile Filante in the second round and losing 2-0 to Al Masry. They will need to improve their attacking prowess to challenge Zamalek’s defense.
