Super Eagles defender Gabriel Osho had a disappointing outing as he was sent off in Auxerre’s 2-0 defeat to Angers at the Stade Raymond Kopa on Sunday.
Auxerre were under pressure to win, having gone six games without a victory in all competitions, including a shocking loss to Ligue 2 side Dunkerque at home.
In contrast, Angers were brimming with confidence, having secured four consecutive wins in all competitions, which propelled them to the round of 16 in the Coupe de France and 12th place in the Ligue 1 table.
The match got off to a disastrous start for Auxerre, as Sinaly Diomande scored an own goal in the 18th minute, and things went from bad to worse when Gabriel Osho received a straight red card just minutes later.
Despite being a man down, Auxerre continued to push with determination as they sought for an equalizer that would secure a big point in order to avoid another defeat.
However, Angers doubled their lead shortly after halftime, courtesy of Esteban Lepaul’s goal, which sealed the win for the home side. The loss extended Auxerre’s winless run to seven consecutive games in all competitions.
Auxerre’s poor form has left them just five points above the relegation zone, adding to the pressure on the team. Next up for Auxerre is a home league game against Saint-Etienne, who secured a late 1-1 draw against Nantes in their Ligue 1 match on Sunday.
