Former Golden Eaglets forward Funsho Bamgboye scored the lone goal in Hatayspor’s crucial 1-0 victory over Alanyaspor in a Turkish Super Lig clash on Sunday.
Bamgboye’s 56th-minute strike ended the club’s dismal 11-game winless streak, marking their first league win since a 3-1 victory against 10-man Gaziantep earlier in the season.
Hatayspor are deeply rooted in the relegation zone sitting 18th on the log with 13 points from 23 games. The win is their second of the season. They have suffered 14 losses and seven draws.
The goal is the second in the Turkish Super Lig for Bamgboye. He last scored in November in the 3-1 win over Gaziantep.
Reacting to the win, head coach, Murat Sahin, says he is happy for the win and hopes it is the start of new things for the club which will be looking to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
“First of all, I congratulate all my players, whether they played or not, for this victory. Our situation is not easy from now on, we are behind. We need to do our best to go up and catch a series,” Murat Sahin said after the game.
“Hopefully, we can continue this. I think we were the side that deserved the match in terms of struggle and position. We will continue our struggle without giving up,” he added.
