The football community was abuzz with praise for Ademola Lookman after the Super Eagles attacker took home the coveted CAF Africa best player award in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday. The accolades have been pouring in from top footballers across the globe, all of whom are acknowledging Lookman’s remarkable achievement.
The Atalanta star player won the prestigious award by defeating other top superstars including Achraf Hakimi, Serhou Guirassy, Simon Adingra, and Ronwen Williams.
Some of the big names in global football took to social media to congratulate Lookman on his well-deserved win: “Deserved brother, we are all proud of you,” the Super Eagles Captain, William Troost-Ekong tweeted. Similarly, Super Eagles legend, Obafemi Martins congratulated Lookman on his social media page.
Former Super Eagles gaffer, Jose Peseiro also sent his regards, highlighting Lookman’s importance to Nigerian and African football: “Congratulations Ademola Lookman on winning the CAF player of the year 2024 award. A well-deserved recognition of your incredible talent and significance to Nigerian and African football,” he asserted.
“My brother, the best player in Africa, well deserved,” Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo commented while former Leicester City teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also sang Lookman’s praises: “Come a long way, so proud bro. Most humble, hardworking guy,” he said.
Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede also applauded Lookman on his feat: “…and at the appointed time God’s name will be glorified. Congratulations Ademola Lookman, Africa’s Best,” while AC Milan’s Tammy Abraham added on his official Instagram account: “Nothing like God’s timing, congratulations brother.”
Several other Nigerian and Super Eagles players including Wilfred Ndidi, Gift Orban, Ola Aina, Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface, Stanley Nwabali, Taiwo Awoniyi, Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi Samuel, Moses Simon and some others also sent their felicitations to the new African best player.
With the win, Lookman becomes the sixth Nigerian player to win the coveted award, following in the footsteps of Rashidi Yekini (1993), Enmanuel Amunike (1994), Nwankwo Kanu (1996 & 1999), Victor Ikpeba (1997), and Victor Osimhen (2023).
