Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, has expressed his disappointment at not being able to lead Nigeria to victory against South Africa in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday. Despite scoring a goal just 37 seconds into the second half, the match ended in a draw.
Dele-Bashiru’s impressive performance was cut short when he was substituted in the 61st minute due to an injury sustained from a controversial tackle that was deemed a fair challenge by the referee.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who had a stellar season with his Turkish club Hatayspor, is now focused on the upcoming match against the Republic of Benin on Monday.
“Happy to score on my competitive debut for Nigeria, disappointing not to come away with three points. Now all focus is on Monday,” Dele-Bashiru posted on his social media platforms.
