Super Eagles captain and Al-Khalood defender, William Troost-Ekong has been nominated for the FIFA 11 in the defender’s category.
The list of nominees feature world-class defenders including Antonio Rudiger, William Saliba, Alessandro Bastoni, Achraf Hakimi, Dani Carvajal, Alphonso Davies and Manuel Akanji.
Other defenders nominated for the prestigious award include Gleison Bremer, Liberato Cacace, Dante, Federico Dimarco, Jeremie Frimpong, Alejandro Grimaldo, Mats Hummels, Aymeric Laporte, Alistair Johnston, Gabriel Magalhaes, Nicolas Otamendi, Jonathan Tah, and Nino.
Troost-Ekong has been exceptional for club and country in 2024. His leadership skills and defensive solidity was one of the major reasons behind Nigeria’s run into the AFCON 2023 final. He also scored 3 goals during the tournament.

Due to his exploits, he was rewarded as the TotalEnergies Best player of the tournament. He was also recently awarded a special honour at the African Nations Football Awards (ANFA) in Cairo, Egypt
