Long jumper Ese Brume has pulled out of the ongoing World Indoors Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Brume was part of Nigeria’s six-athlete delegation to the global tournament.

A check at the start list of the women’s long jump event which holds on 7:15pm on Sunday showed that the 28-year-old was conspicuously missing.

Brume who won silver medal at the last edition of the World Indoors in Belgrade, Serbia was Nigeria’s medal hopeful.

She had consistently delivered for the country, winning two Commonwealth Games gold medals (2014 and 2022), bronze medal at the World Championships in 2019 and silver medal in 2022. Brume also claimed a bronze medal at the last Olympics held in 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

The country’s other athletes Chukwuebuka Enekwechi placed sixth in the men’s shotput event while Dubem Nwachukwu and Edose Ibadin failed to make it out of the semi-final and the heats respectively of the men’s 400m and 800m respectively.
