Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to announce his first squad by 3pm on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers as he seeks to revitalize the team’s campaign.
Eric Chelle faces a daunting task as Super Eagles head coach, as the team strives to revive their World Cup qualification hopes despite a dismal start which has seen the Super Eagles currently occupy fifth place in Group C with three points, trailing Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin by four points.
The squad is expected to feature top players from various leagues, including captain William Troost-Ekong as well as consistent performers such as Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, and Wilfred Ndidi amongst others.
Certain Home-based players may also earn a spot in the squad, following Eric Chelle’s recent attendance at NPFL games as the Malian may seek to tap into the local talent pool and provide opportunities for domestic players to showcase their skills on the international stage.

However, injuries may impact the squad, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Semi Ajayi currently sidelined. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru sustained a sprained ankle while playing for Lazio, and Semi Ajayi’s hamstring issues reappeared after his return from earlier struggles.
Several players are vying for their first Super Eagles call-up, including Cyriel Dessers, who has scored 21 goals for Rangers this season, and Tolu Arokodare, who leads Genk’s charge in the Belgian Pro League with 16 league goals. Getafe’s Chrisantus Uche is in contention to be called up, following impressive performances which has caught the eye of several top clubs.
Other players, such as Ibrahim Olawoyin and Gift Orban, may also receive call-ups due to remarkable performances for their clubs. Ibrahim Olawoyin has been in fine form for Rizespor, while Gift Orban has impressed since joining Hoffenheim from Lyon in the January transfer window.
