Reports indicate that Malian, Eric Chelle is in advanced talks with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the vacant Super Eagles head coaching position.
This development follows NFF President Ibrahim Gusau’s recent assurance that the Super Eagles would have a new coach very soon following the meeting of the Technical Committee on Thursday.
According to football journalist, Mike Osarieme, popularly known as MikeThePundit, the NFF Technical and Executive Committees had settled for Eric Chelle as their preferred candidate months ago. Additionally, Chelle’s representatives are reportedly in Abuja to negotiate and finalize the terms of his contract.
Eric Chelle, a French-Malian national, had a playing career exclusively in France, featuring for several clubs including Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais while representing Mali at the international level.
Eric Chelle’s coaching career includes a stint as head coach of US Boulogne, which he began in May 2021 but ended abruptly in December 2021 after a poor run of results. He later took charge of the Malian national team in 2022, only to be relieved of his duties on June 13, 2024.
