Enyimba International FC will aim to secure a confidence-boosting win over defending champions Enugu Rangers in today’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The match comes just days before Enyimba’s crucial continental fixture against Egyptian giants Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The People’s Elephants are desperate to break a four-game winless streak, which includes three league draws and a defeat in their CAF outing last week against Egypt’s Al Masry.

Rangers, on the other hand, will hope to extend their solid away form, having remained unbeaten on the road since their 1-0 loss to Sunshine Stars on October 12. Since then, they’ve secured draws in challenging away games against Akwa United, Kwara United, Plateau United, and Heartland FC.

Both teams have drawn their last two league matches against each other, but Enyimba holds a slight advantage with three wins in their last five games. However, Rangers will be determined to end their losing streak against Enyimba, which dates back to May 2019.

Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu acknowledged the difficulty of the match but expressed confidence in his team’s recent away form. He highlighted their ability to avoid defeats on the road and their motivation to achieve a positive result against the Nigerian football giants.

“We’ve not done badly on the road and we’ve not done well too. We’ve not won any game on the road after our win against IOkorodu City and we’ve not lost a game on the road in almost two months,” Ilechukwu said in a pre-match interview.

“This is another away game against Enyimba, the most successful club in the country and also the best team in Nigeria. It’s not going to be an easy game but we are motivated with what we have achieved. We know it’s going to be a very tough game but we’re very prepared and positive in what we can achieve,” Ilechukwu added.

Enyimba, meanwhile, will be aiming for a victory to boost their morale before their crucial Confederation Cup clash against Zamalek.
