Enugu Rangers have emerged the best team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for 2024 after an impressive run that saw them dominate key performance metrics throughout the year.
The Flying Antelopes, who won the 2023/24 NPFL league season, also sit atop the 2024 table with 79 points from 42 games, making them the most consistent team in the league in the calendar year.
Rangers topped several statistical categories in 2024, finishing the year with the most points (79) and most wins (23). They also recorded the best goal difference (GD) of +25, the best points per game average (1.88), and the best goals against per game average (0.67). Additionally, Rangers boasted the highest win rate per game (0.55) and the fewest losses per game (0.21), making them the most formidable side in the league in the calendar year.
Shooting Stars who have emerged as one of the standout teams in the current season, sit second on the table with 76 points from 42 matches.
This season, they have enjoyed an excellent run of form, winning five consecutive games before the mid-season break and securing seven straight home victories. Their consistent performances have seen them climb to a strong position, making them contenders for continental qualification.
Remo Stars and Rivers United complete the top four. Remo Stars, with 72 points from 41 games, have been solid throughout the season, while Rivers United, with 71 points from 46 matches, ended the year as the league’s highest scorers with 60 goals.
The Ikenne based side presently top the 2024/25 going into the mid season break with 36 points from 19 games, two points ahead of Rivers in second.
Expectedly at the bottom of the table are relegated sides from last season, Gombe United and Doma United and newly promoted sides Nasarawa United, and Ikorodu City who have played less games than the others. Gombe United sit last with just six points from 22 games, followed by Doma United with 16 points from 22 matches. Nasarawa United and Ikorodu City are with 19 and 28 points, respectively both from 19 games.
In the individual scoring charts, Rabiu Ali of Kano Pillars and Ibrahim Mustapha of El-Kanemi Warriors shared the spotlight. Both players netted 15 league goals in 2024.
