Emmanuel Dennis has vowed to emulate Super Eagles legend Yakubu Aiyegbeni at Blackburn Rovers, expressing his excitement about joining the Championship club on loan from Nottingham Forest.

Dennis made a transfer deadline day switch to the Championship side after falling out of reckoning at Forest who didn’t register him for the Premier League this season.

Speaking during his first interview with Rovers TV after joining the club, the Nigeria striker said he was pleased to join the club where Aiyegbeni also played.

“Yakubu played here and growing up, I watched him play. It is a club I am very familiar with from growing up in Nigeria. I was really pleased they wanted me, I wanted to come,” Dennis told RoversTV.

The 27-year-old forward, who has played for Watford and Club Brugge, is eager to get back on the pitch and help Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side push for promotion.

“I am very hungry. I really want to play football and hope that we are going to have great moments together,” he said.

Dennis, who has studied Blackburn’s playing style, believes he can fit in well and make a difference for the team.

“Before coming here, I analysed how they play and I like it. I hope I can add something to the team and we can have good times together,” he added.

The Super Eagles forward also spoke highly of Yakubu, whose 17 goals in the 2011/12 Premier League season made him a fan favorite at Ewood Park.

“He scored a lot of goals, so many! Yakubu is really big in Nigeria and African football. His contribution, playing in the Premier League, what a guy! He inspired me in some ways because I watched games and he was a really good player,” Dennis said.

With Blackburn in a promising position in the table, Dennis is determined to make the most of his time at the club.

“I am really excited to be back (playing). I will give my all to the club and I really appreciate them bringing me here. I am going to give them everything,” he concluded.

Dennis made his debut for Blackburn on Sunday, his first competitive game of the season as they lost 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
