Elvis Ori undergoes successful surgery, begins road to recovery

Heartland midfielder, Elvis Ori has undergone a successful surgery following an injury to his left cheekbone sustained due to a collision with Bendel Insurance midfielder, Uche Collins in Heartland’s 1-1 draw with the Benin based club at the Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri.

According to an official statement released on Heartland’s website: “Ori was wheeled to the theatre on Wednesday December 18th and after three hours of intensive surgery performed on him by the doctors of Galaxy British hospital, Owerri the broken cheekbone was fixed and the midfielder will return to football after his rehabilitation and recovery.”

Speaking to Heartland FC Media after the successful surgery, Ori recounted his experience with the injury: ““It happened at about 78th minute of the game and after the head contact I injured my cheekbone. According to the scan, my cheekbone got broken into three places and I was placed on surgery and it was done on December 18th between 7am and 10am,” he recalled.

He further appreciated Emmanuel Amunike and the Imo State government for their unending support throughout the period: ““I give glory to God and also appreciate the Technical Manager of Heartland FC, Emmanuel Amuneke and others working with him and also the Imo State Government for standing by me throughout this period. I am indeed grateful and happy,” he said.

“I felt loved right from when the incident happened and I felt that I wasn’t alone. I am indebted to the entire Heartland FC and the Imo State Government led by Senator Hope Uzodinma,” the midfielder added.

Heartland Owerri will visit Godswill Akpabio Stadium to face bottom-placed club, Akwa United in their next NPFL game on Monday and they will be hoping to win as they seek to get into the top half of the table.
