Newly appointed coach Stanley Eguma will be looking to kickstart his tenure at Enyimba with a victory when they take on Bayelsa United at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba later today.

This win would not only mark a positive beginning for Eguma but also provide a much-needed boost to the team’s morale as they look to end the year on a high note.

Enyimba recently parted ways with former coach Yemi Olanrewaju following a dismal run of form that saw them fail to win their last nine matches across all competitions (six in the NPFL and three in the CAF Confederation Cup). This poor performance has left them languishing in 11th place in the league and at the bottom of their Confederation Cup group.

A significant contributor to their struggles has been a severe goal-scoring drought. In their last six domestic league games, Enyimba has managed to score only two goals. Their continental campaign has been equally underwhelming, with just two goals scored in their last three matches.

Eguma, renowned for his success with Rivers United, where he guided them to the league title in the 2021/22 season, is tasked with reviving the fortunes of the “People’s Elephants.” He will be eager to salvage their domestic season and steer them towards a more successful run in the Confederation Cup.

Despite having just a few days with the players, Eguma will be looking to make an immediate impact with a convincing victory over Bayelsa United, who are currently reeling from two consecutive defeats, including a home loss against Abia Warriors.

Enyimba have recently strengthened their squad with the signing of former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye. While his availability for the match against Bayelsa United remains uncertain, his presence is expected to provide a significant morale boost to the team.
