Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers continued his outstanding form, scoring a goal as Rangers staged an impressive comeback to defeat Dundee United 3-1 on Sunday.
Dessers had been in fine form, scoring consecutive goals against Aberdeen and Manchester United, earning him his first league start since December 29 against Motherwell, where he played only 45 minutes.
Rangers were eager to bounce back from their disappointing 2-1 loss to Manchester United, but against the run of play, Dundee United’s Sam Dalby scored, giving the home side the lead.
However, Rangers equalized before halftime through Mohamed Diomande’s fourth goal of the season, setting the stage for an exciting second half.
Motivated to secure all three points, Rangers turned the game around immediately after the break, with Robin Propper’s deflected effort making it 2-1, and Cyriel Dessers sealed the win with a powerful strike, his 18th goal of the season.
The match ended dramatically with Mohamed Diomande receiving a straight red card for violent conduct in the 95th minute as the game unfortunately ended on a negative note for Rangers.
The victory keeps Rangers second in the table with 50 points from 24 games, 13 points ahead of third-placed Dundee United, but still 10 points behind leaders Celtic.
Next up, Rangers face a crucial Europa League encounter against Union St.Gilloise, where a win would be needed to possibly secure automatic qualification to the round of 16.
