Rangers manager Philippe Clement has hinted that Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers can request to leave the club if he feels he’s not getting enough playing time.

The former Cremonese striker has lost his starting spot to 22-year-old Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane. He has been a substitute in the club’s last nine league games and an unused substitute in three games within the same period.

Dessers has openly shared his dissatisfaction with the lack of game time and has hinted at seeking an exit from the club in search of more game time. However, that may be a huge ask, as top clubs only sign players in the January transfer window to strengthen their teams and not make them starters.

Fielding questions in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Scottish Cup 4th clash against Fraserburgh FC, Clement confirmed that he has met with the Nigerian forward, informing him of the reason behind his lack of game time. He also revealed that he (Dessers) can decide his future if he is unhappy with his situation.

“I spoke with Cyriel (Dessers) on why he’s playing lesser than before and that’s because of the evolution of Hamza (Igamane),” Clement said at the press conference.

“He (Dessers) started a lot of games before and scored a lot of goals. He’s somebody who’s there for the team. If there’s a moment where he wants to play all the games, then he needs to make a decision, and if that’s not the case, he’s in competition with other players; that’s what playing at a top club means.”

Dessers has scored 13 goals in 32 games for the club in 32 games across all competitions this season, while Igamane has scored the same amount of goals as Dessers but with seven games fewer.
