Egyptian side Al Masry have landed in Nigeria ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup clash against Enyimba in Uyo. The visitors will be looking to upset the Nigerian giants in this penultimate Group D encounter.
Enyimba’s campaign faced a rocky start with two losses and a draw, threatening their elimination from the competition in the group stage. However, a resounding 4-1 victory over Black Bulls last week injected life into their hopes, leaving them just a point shy of a second-place spot on the log.
Al Masry, who triumphed over Enyimba in their opening group match, have struggled for consistency since. They have failed to win any of their subsequent matches, drawing against Black Bulls and splitting their fixtures with Zamalek, however, they will be looking to snatch the maximum points come Sunday.
The Egyptians arrived in Nigeria on Thursday to acclimatize to the local conditions before Sunday’s showdown. They will be granted a single training session at the match venue to fine-tune their preparations.
A victory over Al Masry could propel Enyimba to second place in the group, provided they also benefit from favorable results in the concurrent matches between Black Bulls and Zamalek. However, a loss would significantly boost Al Masry’s chances, given their advantageous final group game against Black Bulls at home.
Enyimba enter this crucial match brimming with confidence, buoyed by their recent positive form, including six goals scored and only two conceded in their last two games. The appointment of former Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma has undoubtedly instilled a renewed sense of stability and direction within the team.
Having shifted their focus entirely to this crucial encounter, Enyimba are now determined to secure a vital victory and keep their continental aspirations alive.
