Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze will play under new management in the new year after AC Milan fired manager Paulo Fonseca after a string of poor results, culminating in a 1-1 draw with AS Roma on Sunday night at the San Siro.
Fonseca’s six-month tenure at the San Siro saw the team struggle to find consistent form. Despite his efforts, the former AS Roma and Lille manager was unable to turn the tide, recording seven wins, six draws, and four losses in the Serie A with the Rossoneri sitting 8th on the table.
Fonseca confirmed his departure in a candid post-match interview, expressing his disappointment while maintaining a clear conscience. “It is true, I am out of Milan,” he stated. “This is life. My conscience is clear, because I did all that I could.”
The Italian press had been reporting on Fonseca’s impending dismissal for some time, suggesting his fate was sealed regardless of the Roma game’s outcome. Former FC Porto manager Sergio Conceicao is widely expected to take the reins at AC Milan.
According to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, Conceicao has accepted the offer and his appointment is imminent.
Chukwueze was in action in the draw against Roman and was taken off due to a suspected thigh injury.
