Samuel Chukwueze emerged as the hero for AC Milan, scoring his first goal of the season to secure a 1-0 victory over Udinese in the Italian Serie A at the San Siro on Saturday, despite Milan being reduced to 10 men.

Making his first start since August 31st against Lazio, the Nigerian international rewarded his coach’s trust with a clinical finish in the 13th minute, beating his fellow Nigerian international, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, to give Milan the early lead.

However, the match took a turn for the worse for Milan when Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders received a red card in the 29th minute for a reckless challenge on Sandi Lovric, leaving the hosts to play the rest of the game with 10 men.

Milan has struggled with disciplinary issues this season, having finished four of their last five league matches with 10 men. Nonetheless, the Rossoneri displayed resilient defending throughout the game to protect their narrow advantage and secure all three points.

Udinese thought they had salvaged a draw in the 95th minute (of the 103 minutes played) when Kabasele bundled the ball into the net, but VAR intervened to rule the goal out.

After the match, Chukwueze, who was named Panini Player of the Match, praised his team’s determination and defensive grit, which ultimately helped them hold onto the victory.

“It was very nice, especially for the attitude. We defended well, there was a team spirit that led us to victory.” Chukwueze told DAZN after the win. “A good feeling, very important for us. And this helps to give confidence, now we have to continue like this.”

Chukwueze made way for Fikayo Tomori in the 88th minute.
