Nigerian international Chrisantus Uche played a starring role, scoring and assisting, as Getafe pulled off a stunning 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on Sunday.
Getafe’s away form had been dismal, with only one win on the road all season, making them unlikely candidates for a win against Real Sociedad. However, the hosts had also struggled at home, losing four of their ten games at the Reale Arena this season.
The first half ended in a stalemate, with Getafe failing to register a shot on target and Real Sociedad unable to capitalize on their chances. However, the game took a dramatic turn in the 72nd minute when Getafe shifted gears, scoring two goals in three minutes through Christantus Uche and Carles Pérez.
Emboldened by their two-goal lead, Getafe continued to press Real Sociedad, ultimately sealing the win with a third goal in the 85th minute as Uche turned provider, assisting Carles Pérez for his second goal of the match.
While victory is the main priority, Uche’s goal marked a significant milestone for him—his first since the season opener when he scored in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club. Getafe will be hoping this goal sparks a resurgence in the 21-year-old’s form.
The victory propelled Getafe to 14th in the standings with 23 points from 21 matches, three points clear of the relegation zone. Next up, they host Sevilla, with Uche potentially facing his Nigerian counterpart, Akor Adams, who is reportedly close to joining the Spanish side.
