West Brom striker Josh Maja is set to undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action for several weeks after sustaining a lower leg injury. This officially rules out a January exit from the club for the Nigeria international.
Albion confirmed the injury to their top scorer in a statement on Tuesday on their website: “Josh Maja is set to be out for several weeks after sustaining a lower leg injury,” the club said.
“The 26-year-old striker will undergo surgery in the coming days before entering a period of rehabilitation. Albion hopes to have Maja back in contention during the spring. Everyone at the club wishes Josh well in his recovery.”
Maja has been in good form for the Baggies, finding the back of the net 12 times while providing two assists in 26 EFL Championship games this season.

His performances have drawn interest from several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham, Southampton, Bournemouth, and Ipswich Town, as well as from teams in Spain’s La Liga.
Albion are currently sixth on the log and aims to make it to the promotion play-offs at the end of the season to stand a chance of gaining promotion to the top flight. However, Maja’s injury could negatively affect their chances of making it to the playoffs.
The injury gives the club the time to sign a striker to cover the void left by the Nigerian. The club is currently without a proven striker, as American Daryl Dike is also out injured, leaving the club with forwards Karlan Grant and Tom Fellows
