Italian side Cagliari are set to pursue Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers if their impending move for Nigerian striker David Okereke fails to materialise.

The Islanders are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of a feisty relegation survival battle and have identified Okereke as the right man to help Roberto Piccoli, who is the club’s top scorer with five goals in 21 games.

Okereke, currently on loan in Turkey with Gaziantep from Italian Serie B club Cremonese, has been in good form, scoring six goals in 14 Turkish Super Lig games while grabbing two assists.

There are complications with the move for Okereke, as Gaziantep might be unwilling to let go of the Nigerian striker, who has been their top scorer this season. The club might move fast and activate the buy clause on the striker should Cagliari continue their aggressive push to sign him.

On the other hand, Okereke might also be unwilling to leave Turkey based on his current form.

According to Italian journalist Stefano Ambu another player the club is likely going to consider is Glasgow Rangers’ striker Cyriel Dessers, who is seeking a move away from the Scottish giants in search of more game time.

Although the name of the Nigerian has only been mentioned briefly in conversations, he might just be the most available player for the Islanders.

Dessers also has Serie A experience, having played a season with Cremonese. The Rangers striker has scored 16 goals and provided five assists for the Gers in 33 games across all competitions this season. The Nigerian striker is open to leaving the Gers.
