Cagliari are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Cyriel Dessers back to Serie A, with Rangers setting an asking price of approximately €5 million for the striker.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Sardinian club has inquired about Dessers’ availability. The Scottish side are seeking to recoup the amount they paid to Cremonese for the Nigerian international last summer.

While the €5 million price tag might stretch Cagliari’s budget, there’s potential for a loan deal with an obligation to buy if the club maintains its Serie A status.

Dessers, 29, is no stranger to Italian football, having spent the 2022-23 season with Cremonese. Despite the club’s relegation, he impressed with seven goals and two assists in 29 appearances.

The striker’s stock has risen significantly since his move to Rangers, where he’s netted an impressive 22 goals and provided nine assists in 54 competitive matches.

Born and raised in Belgium, Dessers chose to represent Nigeria internationally, scoring twice in six appearances for the Super Eagles.

This isn’t the first time Dessers has attracted interest from Serie A clubs since leaving Italy. Both Hellas Verona and Torino reportedly showed interest during the January transfer window.
