Nigeria’s sole representative in the CAF Inter-Club Competitions, Enyimba, staged an impressive comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Egyptian giants Zamalek in their second Group D match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The defending champions, Zamalek, started strongly, dominating the early exchanges. They opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Seifeddine Jaziri and doubled their lead in the 40th minute with a strike from Omar Faraj.
Enyimba fought back courageously, pulling a goal back just before halftime. Ifeanyi Ihemekwele chipped the Zamalek goalkeeper during added time in the first half to score a spectacular goal. The hosts leveled the game in the second half, courtesy of Ufere Chukwu’s deflected effort.
The draw marked Enyimba’s first point in the group and their first goals in this season’s Confederation Cup. The match was fiercely contested, with Enyimba taking 18 shots, five of which were on target, while Zamalek managed 16 attempts, eight on target.
Zamalek’s high defensive line was a key feature of the game, catching Enyimba offside on eight occasions.
