German manager Bruno Labbadia is once again in the spotlight as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) continues its search for a new coach to lead the Super Eagles into the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nigerian football insider Tobi Adepoju recently tweeted, “German coach Bruno Labbadia is back in the news for the Super Eagles job. Good option?” A subtle suggestion that the German tactician is once again being considered for the role.
The NFF in August had announced the appointment of Labbadia as the Eagles’ 37th coach but the excitement was short-lived as he withdrew from the role due to logistical and organizational issues.
“I wanted to go abroad. The basic requirement for me was that I have to go to Nigeria to see everything on site. And that was no longer possible after it was announced,” Labbadia had revealed in October.
“It was no longer about the pay. There were various organizational things that were problematic. And then things got tighter and tighter so that I didn’t have two days left for the meeting with the national team. Then I pulled the ripcord because the feeling was getting worse and worse.”
Despite these setbacks, his name has resurfaced as a potential candidate, alongside other high-profile names like Hervé Renard according to reports.
Another NFF source who spoke to Bold Sports under the condition of anonymity also confirmed the news on Tuesday.
“It’s only speculations, nothing official yet. But yes, they are back to discussing with him,” he told Bold Sports.
The NFF are in need of a coach to guide the Super Eagles through the difficult journey of qualifications for the 2026 World Cup, where they lie fifth in a group of six countries with three points from four games.
