Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has congratulated Slavia Prague defender Igoh Ogbu and Genk striker Tolu Arokodare after their maiden call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
Igoh Ogbu, who is having a remarkable season with Czech first league leaders, Slavia Prague, was called up alongside five other defenders while Tolu Arokodare, who is leading Gent to the Belgian Pro league title, joins six other attackers including Victor Boniface in Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad.
In elation for his new teammates, Victor Boniface took to his Instagram account to celebrate Ogbu and Arokodare, congratulating them on their achievement while indicating that they have come a long way to representing Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers.
former Nigeria U20 player, Igoh Ogbu started his professional career with Gombe United before joining Norwegian club Rosenborg in 2018. He gained experience through loans at Levanger and Sogndal, then played for Lillestrøm before joining Slavia Prague in 2023.
Similarly, Tolu Arokodare’s football career started in Nigeria, where he honed his skills at several academies. His professional career began with a move to Latvian club Valmiera, before gaining experience on loan at 1. FC Köln and Amiens, and eventually securing a move to Genk.
Tolu Arokodare was also part of the NPFL U17 team that participated in the 2017 Gauteng Future Champions tournament, alongside other talented players like Nigerian goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye and Rafiu Ishaq, who has since played for 16-time Slovenian champions Maribor, and currently plays for Primorje.
Victor Boniface and his teammates will thus aim to give a warm welcome to newcomers Igoh Ogbu, Tolu Arokodare, as well as Kayode Bankole, and Papa Daniel, all of whom have received their first Super Eagles call-up.
The team will then switch their attention to their all-important double-header clash against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, facing the former on March 21 at Kigali before hosting the latter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on March 25.
