Three Italian Serie A clubs, Bologna, Cagliari, and Empoli are battling to sign Nigerian striker David Okereke from Cremonese after their relegation to Serie B according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

All three teams looking to bolster their attack ahead of the 2023/24 season have identified the Nigerian to be a key addition to their sides. The 25-year-old who joined Cremonese in the summer of 2022 has two years left on his contract with the Italian side and is valued at around €4 million by Transfermarkt.

Despite interest from clubs in the topflight, Cremonese is hoping they can keep Okereke for at least another season so as to help drive their promotion effort after losing fellow Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers to Glasgow Rangers for a reported €5 million.

Okereke will be an asset to any Serie A side that ends up getting his signature due to his experience in the league.

Although his numbers are underwhelming, Okereke has played two seasons in the Italian topflight with Spezia in the 2021/22 season while on loan from Belgian side Club Brugge while he played the 2022/23 campaign with now relegated Cremonese.

In 65 Serie A appearances, Okereke has found the back of the net 14 times. He scored seven goals in 33 games for Cremonese last season.
