Nigerian forward Yira Sor has been ruled out of KRC Genk’s Belgian Cup round of 16 clash against Standard Liege on Wednesday, as confirmed by the club’s manager, Thorsten Fink.
The Blue-White aim to bounce back after their 2-2 draw at Sint-Truiden over the weekend, which ended their six-game winning streak across all competitions.
Fink revealed in a pre-match press conference that all players, except Sor, are fit for selection. However, he did not disclose the reason behind the Nigerian forward’s absence, despite Sor featuring as a second-half substitute in the previous match.

“Yira Sor is the only absentee from the Genk selection. All other players are fit,” Fink stated. He also hinted at potential changes to the starting lineup, emphasizing the depth and impact of his squad.
“There may be a few other names at kick-off. Our core of players has often shown this season that the substitutes can make the difference. That will be no different on Wednesday evening.”
Looking ahead to the game, Fink acknowledged the challenge posed by Standard Liege but expressed optimism about playing at home in the Cegeka Arena.
“Standard is a tough team. They play compact and can be dangerous in set pieces and counterattacks. It will be another tough derby. The cup remains the shortest route to Europe, and we are strong at home. It is certainly an advantage that we are playing at home. We are still undefeated at home and want to confirm that good reputation.”
