Nigerian attacker, Babajide David recorded an assist as Rizespor drew against Konyaspor 1-1 in a Super Lig clash that was played at Caykur Didi Stadyumu, Rize on Saturday.
In a keenly contested match that ultimately ended in a 1-1 stalemate, Nigerian forward, Babajide David stood out as the shining light, recording his third assist of the Super Lig season and completing the most dribbles in the game (5).
Rizespor Head Coach, Ilhan Palut made one change to the side that lost 1-0 to Gaziantep FK as Giannis Papanikolaou was introduced to replace Dal Varesanovic while Babajide David started in the attack alongside fellow Nigerian, Ibrahim Olawoyin and Algerian, Rachid Ghezzal. Experienced striker Ali Sowe led the attack.
Rizespor’s afternoon did not get off to the ideal start as Olawoyin was flashed a yellow card for a bad tackle in the 25th minute. However, undeterred by the early setback, the team kept working hard and they were rewarded as Babajide David delivered a pinpoint assist just five minutes later for Ali Sowe to finish and give the home side the lead.
Konyaspor leveled the score line just after the half time courtesy of a brilliant header to the right bottom corner by Danijel Aleksic following a cross from Louka Prip. While both teams made substitutions to try and steal a win, the game eventually ended in a draw.
With the draw, Rizespor sit 9th with 20 points, just one place below Konyaspor who are ahead on goal difference. Babajide’s Rizespor will host Van Spor Kulubu next in the Turkish Cup while Konyaspor will entertain Karacabey Belediye Spor in the same competition as both teams battle to qualify for the next round.
