Taiwo Awoniyi’s future at Nottingham Forest have been thrown into further uncertainty as the club is reportedly ready to make a £60 million club-record offer for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
Cunha has been in superb form for Wolves this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 21 games. According to Sky Sports, Forest are ready to go all out to get the Brazilian, and they believe that this is possible if they offer Wolves around £60m for the 25-year-old.
Should the club get Cunha, it may spell doom for Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who has been in poor form and is yet to get his footing this season after 22 games. Awoniyi has only been able to find the back of the net once in 17 league games, a situation that has reduced him to substitute appearances.

Forest are looking to push Arsenal and Liverpool for the league title, and they believe that getting a proven striker to complement the effort of Chris Wood, who has been in fine form this season, scoring 14 goals and providing two assists in 22 games, will further increase their chances of competing for the league.
The club have also shown interest in signing Brentford’s striker Yoane Wissa, but the Bees are not interested in selling the DR Congo striker. The club also feels the offer for Wissa is lower than their £22m valuation of the forward.

A loan move away from the City Ground is not off the books for Awoniyi. West Ham United have shown interest in signing the former Liverpool player, and according to other reports, the Nigerian is open to leaving Forest before the February 3rd transfer window closing date.
Taiwo Awoniyi is currently one of two Nigerian players on Forest’s wage bill. The other is Ola Aina, who has been in superb form for the club and is also arguably one of the best right-backs this season.
