The National Sports Commission (NSC) has unveiled the Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board, with former Nigerian international Yusuf Ali as CEO.

The 13-member board, led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, is focused on developing a long-term framework that prioritizes the well-being of elite athletes and drives medal-winning performances at global events.

According to a statement signed by the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Honorable Bukola Olopade, the newly formed board is mandated to establish a sustainable system for the development and welfare of Nigeria’s elite athletes.

As written in the statement, Bimbo Akanni from “Making of Champions” will serve as a consultant and member of the committee, while Prof. Ken Anugweje will provide expert advice as an adviser and member.

Other members of the committee include Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, Sahilu Abubakar, Aku Aghazu, Tunde Adelakun, and Prof. Sadiq Abdulahi.

The committee is further comprised of former Olympian Mary Onyali, Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi, Sunday Odebode, Olalekan Alabi, and Bamiduro Olamide, who will also serve as secretary.

According to the Director General: “All members of the committee were carefully selected for their expertise and wealth of experience to help ensure Nigeria has a sustainable podium success at international competitions with a scientific reward system.”

“This is one of the innovations of the commission under the chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko so that the issues of Athletes welfare and training grants are professionally managed henceforth,” he added.
