Nigerian striker, Toluwalase Arokodare was once again the catalyst for Genk’s thrilling victory, providing a decisive assist to seal a dramatic victory over Kortrijk in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday.
Arokodare led the attack as usual, flanked by Noah Adedeji-Sternberg and Jarne Steuckers in the left and right wing respectively. Experienced Slovakian, Patrik Hrosovsky started as the attacking midfielder, playing behind Arokodare and getting into the box to finish off chances.
Kortrijk shocked the hosts with an early lead in the 5th minute courtesy of Gilles Dewaele’s fine finish, however Genk responded with Hrosovsky’s 5th goal of the season in the 41st minute. The Slovakian then scored again just two minutes after half time to give the hosts the lead.
Arokodare who has been on amazing form in front of goal then turned provider as he assisted 19-year-old Nigerian-eligible attacker, Noah Adedeji-Sternberg to seal the victory for the league leaders in his first ever league start.
Kortrijk replied with a 91st minute goal to set up a dramatic finish, however, Genk stayed disciplined to get their second win a row and their 12th win in 17 league matches. They are now seven points ahead of 2nd-placed Club Brugge who visit KV Mechelen in a bid to reduce the gap at the top.
Club Brugge will then host Genk in a battle for supremacy at Jan Breydel Stadion. The League Leaders will hope Arokodare, who has now contributed 3 goals in his last 3 games, will continue his excellent form as they aim to maintain a sizeable gap over rivals.
