Highly-rated Nigerian talents were on display for Lillestrøm as Seun Akanji scored on his debut while Kparobo Ariehi also made his first appearance in a 4-2 friendly win over Skeid on Tuesday.
At just 16 years of age, Seun Akanji took a significant step in his burgeoning career, joining Lillestrøm after catching the eye of the team’s scouts during a successful stint with Sporting Lagos.
On the other hand, Kparobo Ariehi’s impressive performances in domestic and international tournaments for Beyond Limits left a lasting impression on Lillestrøm, as well as several other clubs, who were all vying for his signature. However, the Norwegian side eventually signed the young striker, as he penned a four-year contract with the club.
Lillestrøm fielded a blend of youth and experience in the friendly match, providing valuable playing time to young talents while also giving older players the opportunity to build fitness and match sharpness ahead of the new season.
Efe Lucky, returning from a loan stint at Asane, started the game before making way for substitutes, including another Nigerian International Uba Charles alongside debutants Seun Ajayi and Kparobo Ariehi, as Lillestrøm rang in the changes in the second half.
The match began at a blistering pace, with Martin Andersen scoring the opener for Skeid in the 20th minute. However, August Karlin equalized just before halftime, leveling the scoreline.
The second half was a goal-fest, with Eric Larsson scoring for Lillestrøm in the 47th minute, only for Thomas Rekdal to equalize seven minutes later. Markus Karlsbakk restored Lillestrøm’s lead, and Seun Akanji sealed the win with a 90th-minute goal, securing a thrilling 4-2 victory for Lillestrøm.
Following their promising debuts, Kparobo Ariehi and Seun Ajayi will continue to train with the Lillestrøm squad as they prepare for the upcoming season. The duo is hopeful of fully integrating into the first team, and their performances will be closely monitored as they strive to cement their places in the team.
