Super Eagles duo Semi Ajayi and Josh Maja will play under new management at West Brom following the departure of their influential coach, Carlos Corberán, to Spanish La Liga side Valencia.
In an official statement, West Brom confirmed Corberán’s exit: “Albion have reached an agreement in principle for Carlos Corberán to depart the club to pursue a new opportunity with La Liga side Valencia.
“The 41-year-old returns to his homeland with the club’s gratitude and best wishes following a two-year tenure at The Hawthorns. Chris Brunt, Damia Abella, and Boaz Myhill will oversee first-team duties until further notice.
“Sporting Director Andrew Nestor is leading Albion’s search for a new head coach. The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Corberán, who joined West Brom in 2022, significantly improved the club’s performance. He guided them to the promotion playoffs last season and initially led the team to the top of the Championship table this season. However, a dip in form has seen the Baggies fall to seventh place.
Nigeria internationals Maja and Ajayi thrived under Corberán’s guidance. Maja, in particular, has been in fine form, contributing 10 goals and two assists in 22 Championship appearances this season.
