Ahmed Musa has revealed in a recent interview that he is unfazed by critics questioning his Super Eagles call-up at the latter stage of his career, insisting that it will be disrespectful if he rejected playing for the country he loves.
Despite his contributions to the national team, Ahmed Musa faced criticism from Nigerian fans, who felt he was being favored by coaches and should be phased out to make way for younger players.
In a recent chat with Victor Modo, Ahmed Musa shrugged off criticism, stating that he owes it to the national team to answer every call-up, regardless of what the critics say.
In his words: “For me, I don’t listen to criticism because I know what I want to achieve, I have my targets and I knew this was what I wanted to do. As coaches have said, If I’m not important I’ll not be invited, so why would I get a call-up and not honor it?”
”That would be disrespectful from me. To say no to a country that made me who I am today is impossible. For me, I don’t listen to them, I just keep doing what I know how to do. If the coach says he doesn’t need me, then there’s nothing I can do but if I receive a call-up, I’ll honor it,” Musa added.
Ahmed Musa has consistently delivered for Nigeria despite criticism, boasting an impressive international career since his 2010 debut against Madagascar, including a notable contribution to the Super Eagles’ 2013 AFCON title win, where he played in five of the team’s six matches.
Ahmed Musa has consistently displayed his passion for the country, confessing that joining the Super Eagles was a childhood dream fulfilled. Additionally, his recent move to Kano Pillars in the NPFL demonstrates his commitment to boosting Nigerian football, driven by a passion to support the domestic league.
