Musa, Osimhen, Troost-Ekong predict AFCON 2025 Player of the tournament

As the AFCON 2025 tournament approaches, Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen and William Troost-Ekong made their predictions on who would claim the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to be the 35th edition of the biennial African football tournament and It will be hosted by Morocco from 21 December 2025 – 18 January 2026.

In anticipation of the upcoming continental tournament, CAF’s official Instagram page shared predictions from African football legends on who they think will win the Player of the Tournament award.

Demonstrating faith in Lookman’s abilities, Ahmed Musa publicly endorsed the Atalanta star to win the esteemed Player of the Tournament award, which would complement Lookman’s already impressive accomplishments.

Asides Musa, Victor Oshimen also shared his prediction, projecting that he will make a significant impact in the tournament and ultimately claim the award. Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong took a more collective approach, stating that any of his teammates have the potential to win the award, emphasizing that the entire team is highly motivated.

South African football legend Siphiwe Tshabalala also made his prediction for the Player of the Tournament award, backing Brahim Diaz to take home the honor while Chancel Mbemba, another African football great cast his vote for Mohammed Salah, tipping the Egyptian star to claim the award.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang displayed confidence in his own abilities, stating that he will win the award if Gabon qualifies for the tournament while Egyptian legend Wael Gomaa also made his prediction, backing Omar Marmoush to take home the prestigious award.

Although claiming consecutive Player of the Tournament awards would be a notable feat, the Super Eagles’ primary focus will be on a more significant and shared goal which is lifting the trophy.

With the appointment of new Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle and with the abundance of talent in the squad, it is hoped that Nigeria can make the tournament a memorable one.
