Former Nigerian player Julius Aghahowa has shared his thoughts on Rwanda’s new coach, Adel Amrouche, who will lead the team against the Super Eagles in their World Cup qualifiers on March 21.

Rwanda had been without a coach for over a month before appointing Amrouche on March 2, signing a 24-month contract, with the primary goal of revitalizing the Amavubi team and qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.

Amrouche’s immediate focus, however, will be to secure Rwanda’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Currently, the East African side top Group C with seven points, but they must avoid unfavorable results against Nigeria and Lesotho to boost their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

The Super Eagles, on the other hand, are under pressure to win their upcoming matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe to revive their World Cup qualification hopes. With consecutive World Cup misses looming, the team is desperate for victories.

Ahead of the clash, Julius Aghahowa expressed uncertainty in an interview via Brila Media about what to expect from Rwanda under their new coach, suggesting that it could either work for or against the Super Eagles.

“Players want to prove themselves to the new coach, so it could be disadvantageous to us. It could also be advantageous to us, their coach might want to experiment,” he said.

Amrouche brings a wealth of experience to the job, having managed seven national teams, including Kenya, Libya, and Tanzania, while coaching prominent Algerian clubs. However, he faces a tough challenge against the Super Eagles, who are determined to win and boost their World Cup qualification hopes.

The match will also be a test for Eric Chelle, who will be eager to win over Nigerian supporters with a victory that could reignite their hopes of World Cup qualification.
