D’Tigress advanced to the semi-final of the ongoing 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket after surviving a massive scare from a spirited Mozambicans in the quarter-final played at the BK Arena on Wednesday night.
D’Tigress took the game 59-52 coming from behind to take the day after starting the encounter on a slower pace.
D’Tigress on paper had been picked by punters to advance with ease but the reverse was the case as the Mozambicans came out the stronger side in the first half of the game. They took the first quarter 18-16 and the second quarter 15-13 taking a four-point advantage into the first half break at 33-29.

Amy Okonkwo for the second consecutive game had a monster performance. She scored 17 points and seven rebounds one steal and one block while Elizabeth Balogun had 12 points and six rebounds and two blocks. Murjanatu Musa had an impressive defensive and offensive performance scoring eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Tamara Seda was the most impressive player for Mozambique recording another double-double. She scored 13 points while also recording 10 rebounds.
The defending champions however came out stronger in the second half taking the third quarter 18-10 bore fore concluding the last quarter 12-9 in an end-to-end encounter.
D’Tigress will play hosts Rwanda in the semis tomorrow. Rwanda put up a dogged performance against Uganda in the quarter-final, coming from 11 points behind to win 66-61 in front of an estate home fans.
The win takes D’Tigress’ head-to-head comparison between both teams to 6-2. They have won the last four meetings against the Mozambicans.
