As part of his four-day visit to Nigeria, Karim Adeyemi and his father were at Ibadan on Tuesday, December 24 to witness the finals of the U-15 Adeyemi Football Championship at the Olubadan stadium.

Adeyemi’s foundation revealed that the best three teams of the Adeyemi Under-15 Football Championship will go home with Cash Prizes of 1 million, 750,000 and 500,000 Naira respectively and it was Adeyemi FC U15 who clinched the third-place prize as they defeated Abiola Babes 4-1 courtesy of goals from Olaojo Muiz, Adeleke Waris, and Zakariyau Thaoban.

Adeyemi, who represents Germany at international level has been consistent in giving back to the community in Nigeria by promoting young talents and supporting grassroots football through the Karim Adeyemi Foundation and Adeyemi Football Club.

The visit marks the third consecutive year that Adeyemi has made a trip to Nigeria with the intention of giving back to his fatherland, strengthening ties and inspiring local development.

Despite representing Germany, Adeyemi has never hidden his love for Nigeria in several ways. In an interview that went viral earlier this year, the Borussia Dortmund star revealed that a Nigerian delicacy was one of the reasons for his speed: “I eat a lot of African food, but, I have good genetics from my dad, so I think it will be a little difficult for you to become fast,” Adeyemi stated. “It’s a Nigerian food called Fufu,” the 22-year-old confirmed.

This year’s visit, themed “Karim in Naija – A Legacy in Action,” will continue on December 25 as Adeyemi will commission four key projects in four communities in Ibadan. On December 26, he will attend a tennis exhibition match with U15 players.

Adeyemi spoke on the impact he wants to create with the Karim Adeyemi Foundation: “Access to clean water changes lives, and sports inspire greatness. My goal is to bring these together and make a difference,” he said.

Similarly, the foundation aims to “put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in under deserved communities through football, education, and empowerment.

Asides from his humanitarian activities, Adeyemi is having a good season for Borussia Dortmund with five goal contributions in seven Bundesliga matches, as well as three champions league goals in two starts.

The visit to Nigeria serves as a period for the young star to take a break, refresh, and go again from January as Dortmund will aim to climb higher in the Bundesliga while securing R16 qualification in the UCL.
